Activision Offers $90 Cosmetics
We’ve all gotten familiar with microtransactions; we hate them, and it’s simple to admit this openly. Can we uphold this as an action and avoid them? Sometimes, there are those moments when companies manage to catch our interest. We’ve been on this long fight with microtransactions being bad for years now. Today we continue the hatred with Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6’s newest themed event involving the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Once you realize that if you intend to pick up all this crossover has to offer. It’ll set you back $90; that’s for all 4 Turtle skins/takedowns and the event pass. This is not a bundle; you can purchase each turtle you favor for 2,400 CoD points, which is $20 per skin. The event’s pass includes 3 more skins, and a takedown is 1,100 CoD points at $10.

Especially for fans of the TMNT franchise, it’s a difficult decision to accept. They’ve been making waves outside their games in numerous other game crossovers; one of the earlier ones I recall was Smite. Smite was known for releasing numerous skins that were exclusive to Nickelodeon. The last notable and easy comparison is to Fortnite. Bundled together, it would have set you back $34. Some other characters trickled in soon after and still didn’t reach these prices.

I understand licensing fees probably play into these decisions, not to mention all the work that comes with creating the characters specifically for the games they’ll be featured in. So no expectations for these to be offered freely. Asking us to pay for cosmetics at the same standard as a game itself is insane, though. The practice is continuing to draw a line and see where we won’t cross. This also seems like it could draw backlash on the licensed crossover and make them seem unprofitable. If this isn’t a concern for you because it’s not a title you play, when will it start to concern you? Do you think we’ve already reached the point of no return on microtransactions, and it can only get worse?
