The Monster Hunter team just dropped a bombshell of an announcement today, Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test 2 is coming early February before the game’s release at the end of February.
In OBT 2, we’ll be experiencing not only the original content from OBT 1, but some new and exciting things added this time around to experience, and new participation rewards as well!
Gypceros Returns!

Hunters will now be able to try their hands at hunting Gypceros, a returning monster from the series that we haven’t seen on a mainstage Monster Hunter game since Generations Ultimate back in 2018! Alongside Gypceros, we’ll be getting more exciting announcements to what will be added to OBT 2 as we get closer to said date.
Returning OBT 1 Content – Character Creation, Story Trial and Doshaguma Hunt
Character Creation will once again be available for all hunters with it’s full suite of customization available. During this OBT period, you’ll also be able to remake your character as many times as you like, really honing in what you want to look like. You can also carry your character creation data into the full version of Monster Hunter Wilds!

In the Story Trial, you’ll be able to experience the opening cutscene once more, or for the first time if you didn’t get a chance during OBT 1, playing through the Chatacabra hunt with the basic tutorials that come along with that. This will give you a good chance to get a feel for the weapon mechanics and seamless transitions from cutscene into gameplay.

In the Doshaguma Hunt, the goal for the hunters is to defeat the alpha of the Doshaguma pack. But you’re able to fully explore the vast locale that’s available to you as well on your new Seikret.

Participation Bonuses
Participating in the OBT 2 you’ll receive the following bonuses that you’ll be able to claim once the game fully releases.
Open Beta Test Bonus Pendant | OBT 2 Bonus Item Pack
Raw Meat x10, Shock Trap x3, Pitfall Trap x3 Tranq Bomb x10, Large Barrel Bomb x3, Armor Sphere x5, Flash Pod x10, Large Dung Pod x10
Note: To claim these bonuses in the full version of the game, you must use the same platform account that you used to play the OBT. You must be connected to the internet to receive these bonuses.
Note: Open Beta Test bonuses will be granted to accounts whose character data was created during the Open Beta Test. If you download the OBT game software but do not create character data, you will not qualify for the bonuses.
Note: Open Beta Test bonuses may be made available separately at a later date.
– You can only receive one “Open Beta Test Bonus Pendant” per account, even if you participate in both the OBT in November 2024 and OBT 2.
– The “OBT 2 Bonus Item Pack” can be received by participating in either OBT 2 test period (From PT: Thursday, February 6, 2025 or from Thursday, February 13, 2025). Even if you participate in both test periods, you can only receive one “OBT 2 Bonus Item Pack.”If you participated in the OBT in November 2024, you’ll be able to claim both the “Open Beta Test Bonus Item Pack” and the “Open Beta Test 2 Bonus Item Pack.”

Our entire development team is hard at work reviewing your valuable feedback and focusing on improving the full version of the game.
However, please bear in mind that these improvements, including performance, game balance, weapon mechanics, known issues and more will not be reflected in the OBT 2 build.
