Main Event: Overthrown Demo Feat: Steam Next Fest
Gero, people of FGM. This has been a real itch on my neck for a while. I first discovered Overthrown through my feed on Tik Tok. I followed, and they finally announced a demo for Next Fest on Steam. So I obliged and downloaded it immediately. Being continuously teased I was eager to dive in. I’d say this is a promising main event. It’s not my usual idea of a match for me. Cause it’s a sandbox, city builder, but hope for some RPG additions in the future. I would like to note, and I’m hoping I’ll get an answer at some point on a name. The start screen has the usual, social plugins. They also offer credits, and clicking on that leads to a very cute doggo. This pleased me in the feels
Finally starting, you’re presented in a land, and carry the title of a Queen. It’s not all that fleshed out, but you have some missions to follow. It does well on letting you know what your focus should be. Me? I lived out what I was desiring throughout the months of watching video teases. The controls or should I say movement system would make you believe you’re living out your best life in an anime setting. Raised in the mountains, you’ve gained incredible strengths and fitness. You can sprint at a high speed, and it feels amazing. They even give you an option to drift. I can’t wait for a full release and see people make some courses for this feature alone.Â
Details are heavily noticeable, when you reach a point of different tools/weapons. I was running with a wide sword and it would drag on the ground at the side. Sparks would erupt if you hit a stone ground. Of course, there is more though. I explored the lands before doing anything. I wanted to find the most interesting of locations for myself. Which I think ate a lot of my time towards the demo. Worth though, I got to experience everything and all I had wanted. Building is dependable through a wheel. You can easily swap tools, weapons, items through a keybind.
The wheel is where you do most of your art. You even get the option to move everything once placed. Land items, housing, buildings are never in need of being broken down; you simply pick them up and place them where you want. If you’re one of those types who like to have a balance and need to be symmetrical, you’re in luck. I like to have even Stevens on moments like this in a game, especially in building games.
There aren’t too many requirements, especially compared to some advanced city builder games. Wood, fuel, cogs, etc. There is a currency, so I expect there to be a potential option to meet with a sales person eventually. You do have a need to monitor your town/kingdom however you want to look at it. I also don’t want to forget to mention, gardening is available. Again, this isn’t complex. You build and one of your townsfolk manages them for the most part and you harvest.
On my adventuring ways, at this time. I only experienced two aggro mobs. There are some poachers/Thugs and beasts. You can pillage the camps, and even steal the caves and bring those back closer to your town. Which I did, I stole a cave and brought it closer to my place. You’re able to farm meat through the beast. Which I think is just an extra source. I’m not too in the know if it has a need for the butchery you unlock.
Those same thugs and such, will also come and invade your place. There is a notice, and details the upcoming day. That day was quick for me, I didn’t know where they were coming from and the demo ended for me. I was able to re-open my save, and had a second chance. I still wasted some time, and had some trouble figuring out which direction they’d start from. Instead of my first, where I found an abundance and got overtaken by dozens. The second I was able to find in waves and take out a majority before I got the disruption again.
All in all. At this time, I’d give this fine game a 4 Star Frog Splash. The movement system is what I had the most interest in. I hope it’ll get some more RPG aspects to work with, the management of my town and its people’s status was unexpected. I am looking forward to its release, it wasn’t captured in the pictures above.
The growth menu gives details on when the release of those features will be available. I’m sure the discord will have better details on what else they plan to add and what’s upholding to the future for it. There are obvious noting’s that there could be achievements of actions. In the menu you have free will at this time to swap appearance, but since they’re all different leads to thought it could be for different environments or other possibilities. I’d suggest to anyone to check out the store page at the start. Brimstone, has been doing their own social marketing on Tik Tok and X. No current date for a release, but you’ll be able to experience this not only on Steam, but PlayStation and Xbox too. That’s all the time I’ve got, I need to prepare myself for the match later.Â
