Cut My Game Devs into Pieces
The cutting board has to be nearly split in half by now. It has not been a good time in the back end of gaming studios recently. Many jobs have been hit lately, and now we’re even seeing some that you’d not even suspect. Today Marvel Rivals’ game director and his team were laid off.
NetEase hasn’t given any official response or reasons for these layoffs. Marvel Rivals has had numerous breakthroughs in such a short time. Major success in remaining one of the top 5 most played games on console and the top of Steam’s list. Thaddeus Sasser, the former director, gave an impactful view of the situation. There is much love felt through the replies to his response.
A simple man like myself can only feel some strong opinions on this whole issue. It seems like a rough pinch of only the American team had gotten the pinch, with a few strays in China. The game is only at the halfway point of its first season. New heroes will be joining the game shortly; a lot more have already been datamined. A somewhat successful recent pairing with the new Captain America: Brave New World movie promo is currently happening.
If NetEase makes anything officially known, we’ll update this post. How does this impact you? Will this change your mind on supporting a game that disposes of its overworked employees?
